Places to publish writing online

Young Writers Project

Based in Vermont, this online writing community is a great place to publish writing/art to receive feedback and positive comments. It publishes a yearly anthology featuring members’ art, poetry, and short stories.

Teen Ink

This is another platform where student writers can publish their work. They also produce their own magazine and offer summer programs.

Wattpad

Perhaps one of the more controversial writing platforms, Wattpad does offer an extensive community of readers and writers. There are adults on the site, so it might be best for younger writers to steer clear of this community.

Instagram

Instagram has a diverse and engaged young writer’s community, where many people both share their writing and post about tips for writing.

Writing Contests

The Palos Verdes Library District hosts a teen writer’s contest every November in honor of NaNoWriMo, where they invite a published author to judge the stories. Writers can submit 4 short stories in response to the 4 prompts that are put up on the PVLD website each week.

Reflections is another annual contest, put on by the PVP Council of PTAs. It accepts other forms of art as well, such as dance, photography, film, music composition, and visual arts. It’s a great way to be recognized by the PV community.
